*This is a pic of me & my wonderful boyfriend at Landini’s!*

Last night was wonderful! The Greater Washington Sports Alliance had an event for me at Landini Brother’s Italian Restaurant in Old Town Alexandria to celebrate my induction into Team Spirit!!  (Read more about Team Spirit by going to the section at the top of my page!) I am so thankful that a program such as Team Spirit is out there for athletes like me to help us reach our goals!

The event was so much fun with my family there and many of my friends.  It was also a great opportunity to meet people from the community who came to support me! It was such an honor and very encouraging to have everyone there to celebrate with me! Thanks to all who came!!

On the eighth day of the eighth month in the eight year at 8pm…that is when it all begins.  Go to www.nbcolympics.com and watch the videos to catch the spirit.  They have a Judo section.  It doesn’t have that much information on it but it does have the rules if you would like to better understand the sport.

That’s right! I just wanted to give you all an update that my teammate Ronda won a Silver medal at the World Championships in Rio de Janiero, Brazil last weekend! She did an awesome job beating the current Olympic and World Champion on her way to the finals.

Best of luck to my teammates! September 7, 2007

The picture above is from a couple of years ago but is the only one I could find of just Ronda and I.  This was taken after a tournament in NY.  We both got medals that day!

A few of my teammates – Ronda, Asma, and Rick are leaving for the World Championships Sunday.  They are headed off to Brazil!!  I wish I had been able to compete at my best during the trials to try and make the world team that day.  (I was coming off of a dislocated collarbone at the time of the trials)  I did my best but it wasn’t my day.  Sometimes things like that happen and all you can do to pull yourself up is know that you can’t always win.  I am hoping that “my day” happens when I really need it and it counts for something big!

Good luck to Ronda, Asma, and Rick!! Go USA! :)

Boston September 6, 2007

So I just came up to Boston this week.  I am already missing home but I need to be here for all the benefits Pedro’s Judo Center has to offer me.  There is great coaching here and the best players in the US to train with.  When I am here I live in the ”Judo house” with the other athletes who train under Jimmy.  It is a little lonely at times.  When I’m not lifting, running, or doing Judo I am always on the phone with Neto, my boyfriend, or my Mom.  They are my best friends and the best support system any girl could ask for! Training has been going well so far, besides a slight set back of a torn ligament in my finger.  Hopefully I will be back in the full swing of things in the next few days.  I haven’t missed any training but it can’t be at quite the same intensity with an injury. I am keeping my fingers crossed! – pun intended! ;)

Today I had my first professional pictures taken..well, first ones not all sweaty on the judo mat..these were a lot more fun to have done! I had an appointment with Jaime Windon set up by Kate Michael.  Jaime is great, she made me feel so comfortable and at home and I loved having my pictures taken by her because she wasn’t making me pose.  I always think the candid shots look so much more natural and more recognizable of how the person looks in real life.  It was wonderful to have Kate there too! She made sure my hair was always in place and did my make-up before we started.  These two ladies are the best and I was very to happy to be able to work with them both!!
